Dear friend,
I wasn't sure I was going to share this.
It feels personal.
Like I'm handing you a piece of my heart...
And asking you to hold it gently.
But the things that heal us the most...
Are often the things we're most scared to share.
So here I am.
A few years ago...
I was standing in front of a mirror.
And I didn't recognize myself.
Hives everywhere.
Red welts all over my arms...
My chest...
Covering my face.
Everything swollen.
My body felt like it was sitting in a fire.
And I kept asking...
God...
What's happening to me?
This was 2005.
A few months after my grandma passed.
She raised me.
And when she died...
Something inside me split open.
I didn't know it at the time...
But my body was holding everything I couldn't say.
Everything I couldn't process.
The grief...
The pain I couldn't put into words.
It had nowhere to go.
So it showed up in my skin.
I went to doctors.
Naturopaths.
Energy healers.
They ran tests...
Gave me creams...
Offered shots.
Nothing worked.
One doctor looked at me and said...
I don't know what's causing this.
And I felt so alone.
Because if they didn't know...
Who would?
I remember one night sitting in my room...
Staring at my hands...
Completely exhausted...
And I said out loud...
"Please.
Show me something.
Anything."
That can bring me back to peace.
The next day...
A friend called.
Started telling me about this bookstore in LA.
The Bodhi Tree.
She said it was a spiritual place.
Books...
Music...
All types of healing tools.
I'd never been.
But something in me said...
Go.
So I went.
I walked in...
And there was this whole section with CDs.
Sound healing.
Meditation music.
Things I'd never explored before.
They had headphones set up so you could listen.
I put on a pair...
Started listening to one...
And I don't know how to explain this...
But something happened.
My breathing slowed.
I felt warmth spreading through my chest.
Like I'd been underwater for months...
And I could come up for air.
I wasn't healed in that moment...
But I felt something I hadn't felt since she died.
Relief.
I bought that CD...
Took it home...
And I listened to it every day.
In my car.
Before bed.
While I was sitting with my emotions.
Breathing with it.
And slowly...
My body started to heal.
The hives began fading.
The swelling went down.
My skin started clearing.
It took time.

So my body held on to it.
In my skin.
My immune system.
Everywhere.
The doctors couldn't fix it.
The creams and shots didn't either.

After a few months...
I looked in the mirror.
And I saw myself again.
The real me.
For the first time since she died.
And I remember thinking...
I want to create this for others.
I want to build something...
That gives people space to release what they've been carrying.
Space to be free.
